The Big Shift: Solid Stains Are Winning
Two years ago every homeowner wanted semi-transparent. Now solid-body stains outsell semi-transparent 2:1 at every big box I've walked. Reason: they hide the greying that inevitably starts at year three, and they last 5–7 years instead of 2–3.
Why I Stopped Recommending Clear Sealers
Clear "waterproofing" sealers give you a summer of bead-up and no UV protection. Wood turns silver by fall. Skip clear, go straight to a lightly-pigmented semi-transparent at minimum.
My Sprayer Take
Under 100 ft of fence, brush and roll. Over 100 ft, buy or rent an airless. Back-brushing behind the sprayer is not optional — it's what drives stain into grain and doubles the life.
