🛠️ How This Calculator Works

Panels run end to end, so the count is the length divided by 16 ft, rounded up — the last panel is cut to fit. Posts are the length divided by the post spacing, rounded up, plus one; the corner, end and gate posts you set in wood or brace are taken out of the T-post count. Weight and price come from OKBRAND's panel specs and Farm & Home Supply's price.

📐 Formula

Panels = ceil(length ÷ 16) · Posts = ceil(length ÷ spacing) + 1 · T-posts = posts − wood posts · Cost = panels × price

📝 Example Calculation

160 ft of 50" cattle panel, T-posts every 8 ft, 2 wood corner posts: Panels = 160 ÷ 16 = 10 Posts = 160 ÷ 8 + 1 = 21 → 19 T-posts + 2 wood Weight = 10 × 32 lb = 320 lb Cost = 10 × $29.99 = $299.90

💡 Pro Tips from Fence Builders

  • Overlap panel ends on a T-post and clip both panels to it, so every joint is held.
  • Set corners and gate posts in wood or brace them; T-posts alone lean when a panel run pushes on them.
  • A 16 ft panel is awkward to carry: bend it into an arc between the truck's bed and cab, or buy 8 ft Handy Panels for small jobs.
  • Hog panels (34 in) keep small animals in and suit garden trellis; cattle and combo panels (50 in) are the fence height.
  • Cut with bolt cutters at a cross wire so the stub doesn't leave a spike.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How many cattle panels do I need?

Divide the fence length by 16 ft and round up. 160 ft is exactly 10 panels; 170 ft needs 11, with 6 ft cut from the last one.

How many T-posts per cattle panel?

Usually three — one at each end and one in the middle, so posts 8 ft apart. 160 ft of fence then needs 21 posts; if two of them are wood corners, that leaves 19 T-posts.

How much does a cattle panel fence cost?

Farm & Home Supply sold OKBRAND 50 in × 16 ft cattle panels and 34 in hog panels for $29.99 each on 1 October 2026 — about $1.87 per foot of panel. Add T-posts, clips and corner posts.

How tall are cattle panels?

OKBRAND's Max 50 cattle and combination panels are 50 in high and 16 ft long; its hog panel is 34 in high. An 8 ft, 50 in Handy Panel is also sold.

How heavy is a cattle panel?

OKBRAND lists its SELECT 10-line cattle panel at about 32 lb, the 13-line combination at 37 lb and the heavier 1/4 in versions at 44 and 52 lb. Ten SELECT cattle panels are about 320 lb.

Which panel to buy

OKBRAND (Oklahoma Steel & Wire) makes all three in 16 ft lengths, galvanized before welding: the 34 in hog panel with 11 line wires spaced close at the bottom, the 50 in Max 50 cattle panel with 10 line wires, and the 50 in combination panel with 13 line wires for mixed stock and smaller animals. The SELECT line uses a 5-gauge horizontal and 4-gauge vertical wire.
