What's Different in 2026
Three trends I'm tracking: (1) drone-based zoning surveys are catching over-height fences retroactively, (2) HOAs are enforcing stain color rules more aggressively, and (3) pool-fence self-latching codes are being tightened after several 2025 lawsuits.
My Advice: Pull the Permit
The permit is almost always cheaper than the fine. In Denver, a $60 permit vs a $500 stop-work order. In Austin, $110 vs up to $2,000 plus tear-down.
